Drones

Permits and Conditions

As a drone pilot, you must comply with all applicable aviation laws and regulations. The specific rules and permits required depend on the purpose of the flight and the location in which the drone will be operated.

Flight Within Lycksele Airport (ESNL) Traffic Information Zone (TIZ/RMZ)

Drone operations conducted within 5 km of the airport runways and inside the designated TIZ/RMZ are only permitted when continuous two-way radio communication, or an equivalent means of contact, is maintained with Air Traffic Service.

An exception applies when the flight is carried out at an altitude below 50 meters above ground level and at a distance greater than 5 km from the airport runways. In these cases, two-way radio communication with air traffic control is not required. This exemption applies to drones weighing up to 7 kg and with a maximum speed of 90 km/h.

Rules of Flight

When approval to operate within the TIZ/TIA of Lycksele Airport is granted, the drone pilot must comply with the following conditions:

  • The pilot shall contact Air Traffic Service at 0950-275 60 before take off.
  • The pilot must remain reachable by mobile phone for the duration of the operation.
  • The pilot must continuously monitor the airspace and be prepared to abort the flight if another aircraft approaches the area.
  • When operating in multiple locations, the pilot must inform Air Traffic Service each time the flight area changes, enabling tower personnel to provide accurate information to other traffic.
  • The pilot shall notify Air Traffic Service when the flight is completed.

Contact with Lycksele Airport

To operate drones in airspace near airports, special permission from Air Traffic Service is required for each individual flight. The drone pilot must contact Lycksele Airport prior to any planned operation and provide the necessary flight information using the checklist below:

  • Date and time of the planned flight
  • Expected flight duration
  • Affected area (preferably with a map showing the marked location)
  • Maximum altitude above ground or water
  • Name and telephone number of the pilot in charge
